As a leading private Christian university in Arizona, Grand Canyon University offers students a traditional campus environment as well as a convenient online learning format.
Located in the heart of Phoenix, GCU is home to nearly 6,500 traditional students who live and commute to this 100-acre oasis. At the heart of campus lies the promenade, which connects students from their dorms to classrooms and the newly-renovated Student Union, as well as our resort-style pool.
The Spiritual Life and Student Life teams help coordinate student activities ranging from concerts, barbeques, dances, pizza parties, movies on the lawn and even skiing excursions. Also, GCU is a university in Arizona that offers a number of programs that give back to the community throughout the year through various events and donation drives.
This smaller, more intimate university in Arizona boasts amenities and facilities found at many larger universities. For those who love sports, GCU currently offers 22 NCAA Division II athletic teams. Starting with the 2013/2014 season, Grand Canyon University will begin the process of reclassifying from Division II to Division I as a member of the Western Athletic Conference.
A Growing Campus
GCU has undergone a major campus expansion over the past few years that includes new classroom buildings, dorms, a student recreation center and 5,000-seat Arena. The classroom expansion includes a new College of Education, College of Theology, and College of Arts and Science which houses modern labs and simulation facilities as well as a prayer chapel.
Grand Canyon Arena is the home to our men's and women's basketball teams and hosts other sporting events, concerts and conferences. GCU's state-of-the-art Student Recreation Center features three basketball courts, a modern athletic training facility, and a student fitness center for all campus residents. A full schedule of fitness classes is offered daily in the Student Recreation Center.
The Student Union, which was recently renovated and is scheduled for a major expansion in the near future, offers a wide range of food options ranging from salad bars to a Mongolian grill, and other hot and cold food stations. In addition, GCU's Thunder Alley is a modern dining facility that includes a convenience store, cafe and various fast food venues. Located on the lower level of Thunder Alley is Thunderground, which includes a 6-lane bowling alley as well as an intimate venue for concerts with nationally-renowned Christian artists.
GCU has also drastically expanded its student housing to keep up with the growth of the student body and now offers five suite-style dorms, with several new dorms under way. Apartment-style living is also offered through the newly-remodeled North Rim Apartments, which include a sand volleyball court for endless opportunities for exercise and outdoor fun.
To better serve our students, GCU is expanding to new locations in the Southwest - allowing more students to attend class and earn their degree.
