Grand Canyon University's College of Education encourages children in neighboring schools to read and develop a passion for books.

GCU students and staff host programs in the classroom in which they read to students and explain how reading can help them succeed in school and ensure their future success.

Programs include:

Fitness & Nutrition
focuses on the importance of eating healthy and staying active. Teaching the kids the benefits of a healthy sleeping schedule and the important food groups for a healthy diet will lead to increased energy and happiness.

College Exploration
allows students to explore what they want to be when they grow up. It discusses the importance of choosing the right school and program that fits your needs to have a successful future.

Virtues- Anti Bullying
teaches children what bullying is and how it can be physically and emotionally hurtful. This presentation helps kids understand the difference between joking around and intentionally being mean and the importance of being kind to one another.

Literacy
encourages children to read books whenever and as often as they can. You can read alone or with a parent and if you have an idea for a story, write it down and bring it to life with illustrations!

Math & Financial Literacy
helps the students strengthen their math skills while also teaching them the value of money. Using real world examples, the kids are able to sharpen their mental math and memorize addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts by singing songs.
