Montgomery GI Bill- Selected Reserve
The Montgomery GI Bill-Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606) is an educational program for members who are actively participating in the Selected Reserve components of the Army Reserve, Naval Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard, and Air National Guard.
- The Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security (Coast Guard) determine eligibility. The Department of Veterans Affairs administers the program and pays benefits.
- May be entitled to receive up to 36 months of education benefits up to the day the individual leaves the Selected Reserve component
- If the individual is mobilized, the eligibility may be extended for the amount of time the individual is mobilized PLUS four months
- May be eligible to buy a kicker during enlistment or re-enlistment up to $100, $200, and $350 per month
