Health Insurance and Medical Requirements
Grand Canyon University requires the following student groups to provide proof of medical insurance:
- Nursing students in the 'clinical' component of their program must provide proof of coverage or they will be automatically enrolled in our AETNA student insurance program.
- All athletes on campus participating in university-sponsored sports must provide proof of coverage or they will be automatically enrolled in our AETNA student insurance program.
- All international students are automatically enrolled in our AETNA student insurance program.
The medical insurance coverage must be comparable to that offered through our AETNA student insurance program. Students providing proof of coverage other than our AETNA student insurance program must waive coverage by the specified deadline. If you are a student required to provide proof of insurance, you must submit a waiver for the first semester you attend and every fall thereafter. If a waiver is not submitted by the deadline, you will be automatically enrolled in coverage through our AETNA student insurance Program.
It is your responsibility to apply for a waiver by the deadline. Remember to keep a copy - it is proof that you turned in your waiver!
AETNA Student Insurance
For fall 2014, our AETNA student insurance premium is $1,200 per semester.
To learn more about student insurance and/or waive coverage visit the AETNA website.
GCU Health Fee
Beginning in fall 2014, GCU will also be implementing a new Health Fee of $50 per semester. This fee is designed to help subsidize the costs associated with offering Health and Wellness Center services to students on campus. We have discounted the cost of our AETNA student insurance by $50 per semester so students who select this option will not be charged the Health Fee.
We encourage you to investigate and enroll in the insurance program that best meets your needs. Should you decide AETNA is the best option for you, you can enroll in April.
