GCU Speech and Debate Team

Speech and DebateWe are an intercollegiate speech and debate team that competes in limited preparation, platform and interpretation speech events. In addition, we compete in both parliamentary and Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Our goal is to develop students into prepared, polished and confident speakers who can utilize these skills throughout their entire lives.


Accolades

41st Annual Watson-Lancer Invitational Speech & Debate Tournament

Under the leadership of coach Barry Regan, Grand Canyon University's Speech and Debate Team took first place among four-year universities in the overall sweepstakes. The team was led by:
  • Jesus Betancourt (1st place, novice Extemporaneous Speaking)
  • Bradlee Waldraff (1st place, novice Impromptu Speaking; 5th place, open Impromptu Speaking)
  • Victoria Saunders (2nd place, varsity Dramatic Interpretation; bronze medal, novice Parliamentary Debate)
  • Taylor Alandzes (bronze medal, novice Parliamentary Debate; 6th place, novice Extemporaneous Speaking; 6th place, novice Impromptu Speaking).
