Arizona Teaching Intern Certificate Program
Alternative Pathways to Teacher Certification
The AZ Intern Certificate is an alternative pathway to teacher licensure that is designed for students who have secured a contract with a district in a high-needs area and who are currently enrolled in one of the following master's degree programs:
- Master of Education in Early Childhood Education
- Master of Education in Elementary Education
- Master of Education in Secondary Education
- Master of Education in Special Education
Under the Intern Certificate, students who meet specific eligibility requirements work under contract in an appropriate classroom while completing their coursework. To be eligible, students must have:
- Passed the AEPA/NES subject knowledge exam
- Maintained a current AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Completed the SEI requirements
- Secured a potential teaching contract upon obtaining the AZ Intern Certificate

**If you are enrolled in the M.Ed. Early Childhood program, you are required to complete 8 weeks of student teaching in a
Birth to Pre-K setting and 8 weeks in a K-3rd grade setting.
