About Federal Perkins Loan

The Federal Perkins Loan is a low interest loan for undergraduate and graduate level students. The loan is awarded to students according to their need and availability of federal funds. Repayment begins at a fixed interest rate of 5% nine months after the borrower ceases to be enrolled at least half-time. Loan repayment must be completed within a ten-year period at a minimum repayment rate of $40 per month.  

If you have been awardeed a Federal Perkins Loan for this current year, please continue to read the information listed below.

First-time Perkins Loan borrower, you must complete the Perkins Entrance Interview and the Perkins Master Promissory Note online with service provider Educational Computer Systems Inc. (ECSI) before the Perkins Loan will be credited to your GCU student account.

For Returning Perkins Borrowers that have a valid Perkins Master Promissory Note and a Perkins Entrance Interview, your funds will post automatically into your GCU student account unless we receive notification from you to decline this award.

To decline your Perkins award for the Academic year, please contact your Finance Counselor. Your Perkins award amount and disbursement information is listed on your Grand Canyon University Award Letter.

Remember, to remain eligible and in deferment status, traditional students must maintain at least half time enrollment - a minimum of 6 credits per semester. Audited courses are not included in enrollment credits. Students must also maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (both qualitative and quantitative measures) with Grand Canyon University.
