Practicum Placement Assistance

The Office of Field Experience in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences facilitates the practicum process for students who are pursuing master's level degrees in professional counseling or addiction counseling. The OFE also helps coordinate the practicum experience for bachelor's students who are earning a degree in counseling and intend to practice in a state that requires a practicum to be completed.

Practicum is an integral aspect of counseling. It frequently introduces students to the field for the first time. During the practicum placement students experience the daily routine of a licensed individual and enhance their learning using the knowledge and skills from the classroom.

Practicum is typically required by state licensing boards for certification or licensure. Additionally, field experience provides students with the skills and networking opportunities needed in order to obtain employment upon graduation.
