|Roz Jaffer earned a Bachelor's in Business, a Master's in Human Resources/Labor Relations, and a Ph.D. in Higher, Adult, and Life Long Education (HALE) from Michigan State University. Dr. Jaffer is a Senior Institutional Equity and Diversity Consultant and provides investigation services and support for students, faculty and staff. In addition, she has assisted faculty with curriculum and course development, accreditation, online master courses development, marketing, program review, assessment, student internships, faculty evaluation, and faculty recruitment. Dr. Jaffer also teaches a variety of cross-disciplinary courses including: Strategic planning and change, leading across cultures, international human resource management, entrepreneurship, hospitality leadership, and general business. Dr. Jaffer has recently been nominated to serve for the Higher Learning Commission as an Academic Quality Improvement Plan (AQIP) and Pathways reviewer for a variety of higher education institutions.
|Her passion is in enhancing the quality of education, and in promoting the scholarship of teaching and learning. Dr. Jaffer's research interest is in the areas of diversity, human resources, and leadership. In addition, she has written articles on a variety of topics. Currently she is writing a text book on "Managing Diversity in the Workplace".
How has facilitating online courses at GCU helped you find your purpose?
Teaching online courses at GCU has helped me find my purpose by delivering quality education to a diverse student population. I believe in a college degree and making a difference in other people's lives through delivering quality education is truly fulfilling.
What is one effective teaching strategy you use in your online classes?
I take the time to listen to what my student needs are. I often proctor a mid-semester survey to see how my students are doing as a way to help student succeed. This feedback is essential in adjusting or enhancing the classroom experience in a given semester as no two classes are ever the same.
What is a GCU online student success story you can share?
I have helped students by providing them with out of the classroom mentoring support. For instance, last semester, there was one student who was struggling with the assignments. By proving mentoring and coaching support via telephone, I was able to help the student improve her grade. Similarly, there is one student this semester that has communicated with me outside the online class, and he has asked that I chair his dissertation committee. These are just a couple of examples of how students are able to make network connections with me outside the online class environment, thereby making their educational experience live.
