Tiffany Bodemann

Tiffany Bodemann completed her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education at Arizona State University in May of 2000. In 2002, she earned her Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction also at Arizona State University. She continues her studies in Developmental Science with an emphasis in early brain development. She is a certified teacher in both Arizona and Kansas.

Tiffany has been teaching for Grand Canyon University since 2009 and serves as an online instructor for graduate level education. She has 18 years teaching experience including working at the preschool, elementary, and college level. In addition, she worked as a consultant on several early childhood grants and committees that encourage fundraising for educational needs at the local school level.
Tiffany and her family reside in Kiowa, Kansas on a farm that has been a part of her family for four generations. She and her husband recently celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary. They have two daughters. Their eldest daughter is in 4th grade and is very active in sports, Girl Scouts, 4H, sewing, and dance. Their youngest daughter just started preschool and is active in community events, sports, and dance. Tiffany is very active in their children's lives and the community. She is a Girl Scout Leader, 4H Arts and Crafts Leader, and the Parent Teacher Organization President. In Tiffany's spare time she enjoys reading, scrapbooking, and spending time with her family.

How has facilitating online courses at GCU helped you find your purpose?

I love teaching and feel it is my calling. Facilitating courses at GCU has provided me with the opportunity to continue to learn from other teachers (aka my students) and grow within the field of education. I am blessed and grateful to have the opportunity to stay abreast of new philosophies, practices, and research that has helped me to continue to grow both professionally as a teacher and personally as a mother.

What is one effective teaching strategy you use in your online classes?

One effective strategy that I use in my online classes is universal to what I use in my traditional classroom. I show that I care. I respond to each personal introduction and reference it regularly so I am always aware of what each student must manage every day. We are all busy family members and all of us have multiple responsibilities and stresses. I believe people come first and then find a way to make the learning applicable to that person. I look for unique ways to differentiate instruction by sharing a variety of resources that apply to the content we are learning, but also to the individual student's situation such as the grade they are teaching, etc. When students have questions I try to answer as thoroughly as I can, I try to look at things from their perspective. I am present in the classroom daily and respond to questions and emails efficiently and timely. I like to do all that I can to provide feedback that is meaningful. My goal is to set my students up for success and I continually look for ways in which to accomplish this. Sometimes an email of praise or a phone call of encouragement is necessary to fulfill this.

What is a GCU online student success story you can share?

I have several I think of regularly. I am always most impressed with students that persevere even during difficult times. I am always honored to be a listener and a support during their journey. I had one student who was two classes from completing her master's degree when her husband was killed in a car accident. He was the family provider and her main support personally. Even facing this tragedy, this amazing woman completed her degree. It was an honor and a blessing to be able to work with her. She was such an inspiration with her faith and drive. We became very close friends and I am proud to say she is making a difference in the lives of children every day.
