GRAND CANYON UNIVERSITY PARTNERS WITH SOCCOAST
GCU joins the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges Degree Network System to offer
a bachelor's degree in public safety and emergency management to Coast Guard personnel
PHOENIX (Nov. 19, 2012) - Active duty United States Coast Guard members now have an opportunity to continue their education and obtain a bachelor's degree online from Arizona's premier private, Christian university.
Grand Canyon University's Bachelor's of Science in Public Safety and Emergency Management degree is the latest online program open to active duty Coast Guard through SOCCOAST, which is part of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges Degree Network System.
SOCCOAST is an association of colleges and universities that have agreed to accept each other's courses in a particular area of study. These partnerships allow Coast Guard members to complete fewer of the degree requirements within their home college, offer credit for military experience and training, and guarantee the transfer of credits back to the home college without prior approval.
"We are very excited about the partnership with SOCCOAST," said Bart Burkert, Executive Vice President of Grand Canyon University. "Coast Guard members can transfer their credits and obtain a bachelor's degree with a private, Christian university that is committed to high-quality instruction and student success. This partnership will allow us to change the lives of service members who do so much for us and our country."
Distance learners at GCU benefit from challenging coursework and learn from full-time online instructors who are industry leaders and subject matter experts. In addition, GCU's four-credit-hour courses allow students to complete their degree program efficiently. GCU is a Yellow Ribbon school, providing up to $1,000 per year, per student for any undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral program, which is also matched by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Grand Canyon University was founded in 1949 and is Arizona's premier private Christian university. GCU is regionally accredited and emphasizes individual attention for both traditional undergraduate students and the working professional in seven colleges: the Ken Blanchard College of Business, the College of Education, the College of Nursing and Health Care Professions, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Theology, the College of Fine Arts and Production, and the College of Doctoral Studies. GCU offers traditional programs on its growing campus, as well as online bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs. The University's curriculum fuses academic and clinical rigor with Christian values to prepare its students to be skilled, caring professionals. For more information about GCU, visit www.gcu.edu.
