
RDG 5300 Foundational Theory & Research
This course examines seminal Reading research. Learners will reflect upon personal experience with reading programs and strategies. Upon completion of this course learners will have the ability to assess real-world reading programs and make recommendations for school/student improvement.
RDG 5230 Instructional Leadership & Literacy Coaching
The course provides teachers with an understanding of the complexity of being a leader in times of change and affords them the opportunity to develop a vision of systemic change and demonstrate practical skills for ensuring smooth day-to-day operations within their school.

This course links reading skills across the curriculum through the use of instructional strategies and assessments. The use of textbooks, trade books, literature texts are explored. There is a focus on strategies that are relevant in every secondary content area.

RDG 5130 Reading and Writing: Secondary
This course is designed for students to acquire knowledge related to principles of balanced literacy (teaching of reading and writing together). Learners will attain reading and writing strategies to implement within the secondary classroom.
RDG 5120 Reading and Writing: Elementary
This course is designed for students to acquire foundational knowledge related to principles of balanced literacy (teaching of reading and writing together). Learners will acquire reading and writing strategies to implement with the elementary classroom.
RDG 5110 Corrective Reading Assessment
Participants of this course are provided with informal diagnostic tools that diagnose common reading problems. Learners will also investigate how to identify and implement a corrective action plan as well as analyze and reflect on the results of the corrective action plan.
RDG 5080 Remediation of Reading Difficulties
In this course, students analyze data generated from an informal reading inventory. Participants are provided the opportunity to select strategies for reading remediation based on the data analysis. This course lays the foundation for the creation of a plan of action for reading intervention.
RDG 5070 Reading Diagnosis: The Application of and Rationale for Assessment
The learner explores informal and formal reading assessments as well as analyzes specific literary measures given at the learner's school. An opportunity to administer an informal reading inventory is provided. This course meets the following International Reading Association (IRA) Standards: 1 and 2.
RDG 5060 Literacy & Literature: How to Comprehend
Learners will be exposed to literary elements of both narrative and expository text. In addition, strategies for the development of comprehension and vocabulary skills that promote understanding of literature are explored. This course meets the following International Reading Association (IRA) Standards: 1, 2, and 3.
RDG 5020 The Reading Process
The three stages of literacy acquisition and growth will be discussed at each cognitive level. This course provides participants with a solid foundation of the reading process and its real world applications. This course meets the following International Reading Association (IRA) Standards: 1, 2, and 5.
RDG 5160 Reading Practicum
Participants will use an informal reading inventory to diagnose and assess reading abilities. An individualized action plan will be created and implemented one-on-one with a student based on his or her assessment results.
