Servant Scholars Program

The Grand Canyon Servant Scholar (GCSS) leadership program offers high achieving students a unique opportunity to nurture a heart for God and develop leadership skills by working with some of the Nation's top ministries, while pursuing a Grand Canyon University undergraduate degree. The ministry experience, leadership skill and real-world education gained in this program will be critical elements in the GCSS student's path to discovering God's purpose for life.

Application Process

Applications are currently not being accepted.

Applicants must submit a completed application, including transcripts, video and pastoral reference. GCU personnel will evaluate completed applications. Select applicants may be offered an interview with GCU personnel. Select interviewees may be offered a position in the GCSS leadership program.

  • Accepted to Grand Canyon University 
  • Submit GCSS application                                                       
  • Submit a copy of unofficial high school transcripts
    • Transcripts must demonstrate admissibility with a 3.25 or greater GPA to qualify (3.0 for college transfer students)
    • Must have a completed high school diploma prior to the start of the fall semester
  • Submit a personal video
  • Pastoral reference (pastor email address required)

Servant Scholar

Requirements

As a Grand Canyon Servant Scholar, participants will be expected to participate in GCU-based ministry leadership training as conducted by the University Spiritual Life Department. The Spiritual Life Department will conduct one common leadership training meeting per month for the team. Scholars will also be obligated to complete 8 hours of service per week. With help and support from the Servant Scholar Coordinator, scholars select a ministry with which to partner. Each ministry partner will validate that hours have been served directly to the Spiritual Life Department each month. In addition, all Grand Canyon Servant Scholars must live on the GCU campus in order to further build a vibrant, Christian community environment on campus. Other Scholar Program Requirements - To maintain good standing in the program, all scholars must meet the following obligations:

  1. Attend a minimum of 12 chapel services per semester
  2. Attend one GCSS training event per month
  3. Attend one Ministry Partner related leadership training event per month
  4. Serve an average of 8 hours per week in ministry: 4 on-campus; 4 with Ministry Partner
  5. Provide periodic grade check reports to the Servant Scholar Coordinator
  6. Participate in at least 1 GCSS mission trip
  7. Maintain a 3.0 GPA at GCU

Scholarship Specifics

  • Award amount is $10,000 per year
  • The GCSS may be combined with academic scholarships up to the following limits:
    • President's Scholars and Chancellor's Scholars on campus housing - up to $16,500
    • All other scholars on campus housing - up to $14,000
  • The GCSS scholarship is renewable. Renewing student must:
    • Remain in academically good standing, 3.0 or higher GPA
    • Fulfill all other scholarship requirements
    • Scholarship recipients will be determined by Grand Canyon University.
