Housing Operations

The Office of Housing Operations at Grand Canyon University exists to manage the logistical and infrastructure needs of the residential community on campus.  The online housing application, student placement, regular maintenance, building security and facility upgrades and improvements are all aspects that Housing Operations oversees.  It is the goal of the Office of Housing Operations to create a safe and secure environment for all residents to live in, in order to further grow the community on the campus of Grand Canyon University.

Eric Andrews
Director of Housing Operations
Eric Andrews Eric is originally from Simi Valley, California and an alum of GCU. After earning a B.S. in Justice Studies, he got his Master of Public Administration degree with an emphasis in Government and Policy. Some of his fondest memories, including when he met his wife, revolve around his experiences at GCU. He has an amazing wife, Jessica, a young son, Ryder (born July 2012) and a German Shepherd/Chinese Shar-pei mix, Penny. He enjoys (trying to) golf, reading, learning and spending time with his family and friends.

Janay Poole
Housing Operations Administrator
Janay Poole Janay grew up in Lisle, Illinois but quickly learned that the Chicago winters were not for her so she headed to sunny, southern California to attend and graduate from Azusa Pacific University with a B.A. in Communication Studies. As a recent Phoenix resident, her favorite pastimes include trying new restaurants/coffee shops, spending time with her family, hiking, exercising, and exploring new and fun things to do in the city. She has most recently become an addict of DIY projects. Her favorite GCU memory so far was experiencing the legacy of GCU Lip Sync contest at Neon Phenomenon 2012.

Residence Life

The Office of Residence Life exists to take the residential experience on GCU's campus past just offering a place to sleep.  Building a close-knit residential community on campus through social programming and fun-filled student events is the ultimate goal of Residence Life. 

On the rare occasion a resident's experience is less than ideal, RDs and RAs are there to assist students with any problems that may arise.  From roommate mediation to informal counseling, Residence Life staffers are there to make a resident's experience as positive as possible.

Joe Brooks
Director of Resident Life
Joe Brooks Joe is originally from Paonia, Colorado and graduated from GCU. His favorite memory of going to school here was climbing on the gym roof and filling multiple backpacks full of foulballs hit from the baseball team. His favorite hangout in the valley is Oreganos restaurant. He is married to his lovely wife, Sarah, and they have a golden retriever named Bella.He enjoys outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, as well as playing guitar when the mood strikes him.

Chelsea Ellis
Resident Director
Chelsea Ellis Chelsea was born in Vista, California and is a proud GCU alum. Her favorite memory at GCU was during her senior year when they convinced the facilities staff to move playground equipment, specifically the monkey bars, to the front door of their apartment. Her favorite place to hang out in Phoenix is her apartment! Her parents and sisters live in Memphis but she does have a lovely basil plant (Diva) that she has managed not to kill off yet. In terms of activities and interests, she has picked up the lost art of tie-dying recently and also likes to read, make her perfect homemade mac n cheese recipe, and pretend that she's a good guitar player.

Jennifer Doane
Resident Director
Jennifer Doane Jennifer was born in Houston, Texas but grew up in Tempe, AZ. She graduated from GCU in 2008 with a degree in Education. She is currently pursuing her master's in Christian Studies with an Emphasis in Leadership. Some of her favorite hobbies include, reading, hanging out with friends, going on road trips, and taking naps. Her favorite GCU memory is when she served as the Events Coordinator on ASGCU and the team of directors and she took a road trip to Disneyland. Her favorite places to hang out in Phoenix are Lux and The Gelato Spot.

Rob Widney
Resident Director
Rob Widney Rob grew up in Southern California and attended Cal Baptist University so he is relatively new to GCU and Arizona. His favorite place to hang out in Phoenix is anywhere with air conditioning. He is also a big fan of Taco Tuesday at Federico's. An interesting fact about Rob is that he owns a Hulk Hogan cutout and treat it like extended family. His interests are playing guitar, singing, photography, digital design, basketball, golf, and cars.

Ben Waterman

Ben Waterman Ben was sired in the lovely fields of Sharpsville, IN and graduated from Huntington University. His fondest memory at GCU thus far is attending the NRA BBQs, as they are really great. His pastimes are drawing, reading, ultimate Frisbee, and playing video games.

Sarah Clayton
Resident Director
Sarah Clayton Sarah is from Glenwood Springs, Colorado but went to school here at GCU. Our intramural softball team, the Ghetto Bird Runners, was her most memorable experience here. She loves hanging out at Val Vista Lakes Lagoon with her family and friends. She is married to a football coach and PE teacher. Her hobbies include photography, hiking, biking, rafting, turbo kick, laying by the pool and spending time doing these things with her amazing family and friends!

JP Tanner
Resident Director
JP Tanner JP was born in Chicago, IL and spent time hopping between there and Minneapolis before finally ending up in Phoenix. He attended Arizona State University for his undergrad and GCU for his graduate degree. Although there are many, his favorite memory of GCU was witnessing the infamous hail storm of 2010. He enjoys Phoenix and most recently, he has found a couple of great java spots; Giant Coffee and JoBot Coffee...he loves 'em both! He and his wife have a 3-year old daughter and will begin an adoption process end of 2011/early 2012. He loves art and photography, DJing, hip hop music, cars, motorcycles and design. An interesting/bizarre fact about him is that he has an odd love for typography.

James Rogers

James Rogers James is originally from Crawfordsville, IN but grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. He graduated from California Baptist University before coming into GCU. His favorite memory of GCU thus far was hosting the 2010 Lip Sync Contest. His favorite place to hang out in all of Phoenix is Prescott Hall, believe it or not. His family is made up of his lovely wife and 14 bratty RA's! He enjoys playing guitar, eating chicken fingers, shooting hoops, hanging out with friends, and catching up on sleep.

Nicole Clifton
Resident Director
Nicole Clifton Nicole is a Phoenix native and graduated from Arizona Christian University. Her favorite memory here at GCU has been taking her lunch break at the campus pool with her fellow RD's. She loves that they aren't simply co-workers but rather genuine friends who enjoy spending time with together. Her favorite spot in Phoenix is Chipotle restaurant. She loves it! She is a huge book worm and absolutely loves to read and learn. She also is musically inclined as she plays piano, violin, and has even been in a few musicals.

Ashley Sprotberry Ashley is from Port Huron, Michigan and attended college here at Grand Canyon University. Her favorite GCU memory was during her first year as an Assistant Resident Director during a camping trip with fellow staff. Her favorite hangout spots in Phoenix are Yogurtland and Oregano's. Some of her favorite hobbies include listening to music, going to concerts, taking road trips, photography, and scrapbooking.

Taylor Fagg
Resident Director
Taylor Fagg Taylor's hometown is Riverside, CA. Before coming to GCU, he received his undergraduate degree in International Business and Masters in Business Administration degree from California Baptist University. He loves spending time with his friends and trying out the many excellent food and coffee locations in Phoenix. His hobbies include reading, photography, music, and football.

Victoria Leith
Resident Director
Victoria Leith Victoria was born in Augsburg, Germany and raised in Ventura, CA. She received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Azusa Pacific University and is currently working on her Master's in Psychology here at GCU. Her hobbies include baking (with her yellow kitchen aid she appropriately named, Buttercup ), running, photography and drinking coffee. On a typical weekend, you could find her with friends at her favorite Arizona hot spot, La Grande Orange. Her RA's are joy incarnate (most of the time) and she absolutely loves doing life with the residents of Sedona Hall.

Kris Hayes
Resident Director
Kris Hayes Kris was born and spent most of his life here in the scorching valley of Phoenix. He has also lived in Holbrook, Show Low, and St. Johns, Arizona. Kris graduated in 2009 from GCU with a Bachelor's in Christian Studies and again in 2011 with a Master's of Science in Leadership. Kris and his wife met during high school at summer camp and dated for 4 years before getting married in 2008. Kris was an RA on GCU campus and came away with some of the best memories and friendships from that experience. In his free time, Kris loves to play sports, hike, geocache, camp, play video games and hang out with friends.
