Feel the Place Go Boom!

Grand Canyon University is pleased to introduce our new anthem "Feel the Place Go Boom". With the opening of the Grand Canyon University Arena and the continued growth in our sports teams, GCU looked for a musical spark that would bring the Lopes to their feet . GCU sought out Trevor McNevan from the Christian rock band Thousand Foot Krutch for that missing piece. When Trevor McNevan was first introduced to the idea of writing a personal anthem for Grand Canyon University, he broke into a broad smile. He was about to take the stage to perform in front of 11,000 people at Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho. Trevor asked what the GCU mascot was. His smile got even wider when he was told, "the Lopes."

Trevor is not new to writing sports anthems. His song "Fire It Up" was the 3rd most played song in NHL and NBA arenas in 2010. Trevor is also a good friend of Nashville Predators NHL player Mike Fisher, for whom he wrote a goal song that is only at home games when Mike scores. Also, McNevan has also written songs for Hawk Nelson, Tobymac, Remedy Drive, Decyfer Down, Wavorly, Worth Dying For, Demon Hunter, KJ 52, and Manafest.

Once he started this project, McNevan visited GCU to tour the campus and get a glimpse of what GCU was all about. He met with President Brian Mueller, Pastor Tim Griffin, the Christian Marketing team, other GCU staff, and a number of students including members of the women's and men's basketball teams, the dance team, and student government. With this insight, Trevor has crafted a new anthem that he hopes captures the contagious new spirit of GCU. You will hear pounding rock and roll riffs inlaid with lyrics inspired with a subtle hip hop flavor. McNevan hopes he captured GCU's salt and light Christian heritage, the spirit of its vibrant student body, and the intensity for excellence for our student athletics with "Feel the Place Go Boom."

GCU Anthem Lyrics

Feel the place go Boom!
Turn up the volume!
G-C-U! We run this room,
Let's move! Competitions going under,
Fear the ‘Lopes, hear the thunder!
Let's ride, It's raining salt and light,
Let's show ‘em the pride of the purple and white,
Get loud! Where's that canyon crowd?
It's time to rumble, Welcome to the jungle

VERSE 1
Welcome, to the main event,
the moment you've all been waiting for,
We came to turn the heat up,
So turn that beat up,
...'n' let's show ‘em how we run this floor!

Hey! Can ya feel it? Yeah!
If ya with me, ‘Lopes in the air!
Hey! Are ya with me? Yeah!
Then stand up and shout it like ya just don't care!

(Chorus)

VERSE 2
I believe I can be a world changer, and with that faith,
I believe, we can rearrange it,
All together, if we stand up,
And stay strong,
We'll move mountains, and be history makers with our song
And we don't tread lightly,
‘Lopes together, ‘cause tonight's the night we stand,
it's time to get this started,
Give it to me one more time if ya want it

Hey! Can ya feel it? Yeah!
If ya with me, ‘Lopes in the air!
Hey! Are ya with me? Yeah!
Then stand up and shout it like
ya just don't care!

(Chorus)

Fear the ‘Lopes,
Hear the thunder!
