What is a Nurse Practitioner (NP)? A Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse with advanced training in diagnosing and treating illness. Nurse Practitioners can prescribe medications, treat illness, and administer physical exams, in addition to other health care services. NPs focus on prevention, wellness, and education. NPs specialize in providing all encompassing individualized care.
