Wellness Programs

The Canyon Health and Wellness Center promotes a health related topic on a monthly basis. Topics are derived from what is assessed as a community need and from nationally promoted health related topics.

Some of the programs Grand Canyon University has taken part in are:

  • On-site Mammography
A mobile mammography is available on the GCU campus.  This would be a great opportunity to get a mammogram on your lunch break or in between classes! Several insurances are accepted including the employee health insurance.
  • Annual Health Expo
The Canyon Health and Wellness Centers hosts an annual health expo which include health education and screening. The expo is open to students, staff, faculty, alumni, others contracted with Grand Canyon University and their family members.
  • Smoking Cessation Program
The Health and Wellness Center has implemented the Public Health Service Clinical Guidelines to treating tobacco use and dependence. The program involves a thorough assessment by a Provider who will assist the participant in developing an individualized treatment plan for smoking cessation, weekly assessments, medication management and support by a health center nurse and weekly "Quit Smoking Classes" where participants will learn techniques to help quit.
  • Together for Health (TFH)
A free multi-week program provided by the Maricopa County Department of Public Health to address some of the leading health behaviors that contribute to chronic disease. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, seven out of 10 preventable deaths in the United States are related to tobacco use, poor nutrition and lack of physical activity. The purpose of the program is to empower people for a healthier tomorrow. To provide support and experiential learning for people to begin making positive changes to increase physical activity levels, reduce stress, improve dietary quality to work toward a more healthful weight, increase consumption of fruits and vegetables, and quit smoking.
  • Blood Pressure Screening
Get the facts on high blood pressure and how to live a heart-healthier life. Find out how you can reduce your risks for heart attack and stroke with proper monitoring by a healthcare provider and simple lifestyle changes, even if you have high blood pressure.
