The Office of Field Experience

The Office of Field experience in the College of Arts & Sciences facilitates the field placement of students pursuing Master's level degrees in Professional Counseling and Addiction Counseling. The OFE also helps to coordinate the practicum experience for Bachelor's students who are earning their degree in Counseling with an Emphasis in Addiction, Chemical Dependency, and Substance Abuse.

Starting in the fall of 2011 the Office of Field Experience will also be coordinating field placements for students enrolled in the Master's in Public Health as well as Athletic Training.

Practicum is an integral aspect of counseling as it frequently introduces students to the field for the first time. During the practicum placement students are able to experience the daily routine of a licensed individual, as well as enhance learning through didactic coursework. Practicum is typically required by state licensing boards for certification or licensure. Additionally, field experience provides students with the skills and networking opportunities needed in order to obtain employment upon graduation.
