The Master of Education in Special Education for Certified Special Educators is designed for licensed K-12 special education teachers who are interested in advanced studies in special education in order to become experts in their field. Others interested in this master‛s degree in special education wish to excel to a leadership position such as a special education director.
Courses are taught by experts in their respective fields who share knowledge and experience in areas of learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, emotional and physical disabilities, and other physical and cognitive impairments. This degree in special education involves a study of topics including: Special education program development and funding, inclusion and collaborative practices, assistive technology in special education, assessment in special education, strategies to teach individuals with learning disabilities, strategies to teach individuals with emotional and behavioral disorders, strategies to teach individuals with intellectual disabilities, strategies to teach individuals with physical and health implications, and management and strategic instruction practices for students with special needs.
Geared toward individuals who are already licensed as special education teachers, this master‛s degree in special education does not lead to licensure but may lead to career advancement. Program applicants must submit a copy of a current special education teaching license. In addition, it is essential for students to have access to a K-12 special education classroom to complete the program assignments.
