The Post-Master of Science in Nursing: Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with an Emphasis in Adult-Gerontology Certificate program prepares experienced registered nurses to provide competent advanced practice nursing care in complex, acute, and critical care settings through an evidence-based program of study.
This nursing certificate program combines courses in advanced health assessment, clinical diagnosis, procedural skill acquisition, and care management of adult and geriatric acute care patients, sub-acute patients and/or patients with exacerbations of chronic illness. Clinical experiences emphasize the physiological and psychosocial impact of acute and critical illness on the patient, family, and community, and prepare the ACNP-AG in the diagnosis and management of acute and life-threatening health problems.
Pathology, psychology, legal and ethical issues related to gerontology care are also studied as a means to better help you diagnose and make decisions that are safe and appropriate for individual situations.
The post-master nursing certificate program emphasis in adult gerontology includes 550 hours of directly supervised clinical practice with qualified preceptors. Three practicum courses and three didactic courses help you refine your diagnostic, decision-making, procedural and care management abilities toward patients. Youll also further explore the physiological and psychological impact of acute care on patients and their families.
Advanced pharmacology plays an important role for the ACNP and patient. Inter- and intra- professional relationships are studied. Drug action, treatment of endocrine, cardiovascular disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, neurological, infectious diseases, and respiratory disorders. In addition, pain management, the patient in the intensive care unit, toxicology, medication error prevention, and medication management during transitions of care are also addressed.
