The family nurse practitioner (FNP) certificate is for Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) graduates who are experienced registered nurse interested in working as advanced practice primary care providers for individuals from infancy through their geriatric years.
This post-MSN certificate prepares you to sit for the Family Nurse Practitioner board certification exam through the ANCC or AANP. Advanced courses in pharmacology, health assessment and health care practice management will propel your knowledge forward and help improve your future role in health care through all stages of the lifespan. Youll address the completion and interpretation of a head-to-toe assessment in addition to focused assessments for chief complaints that include physical, psychosocial, spiritual, risk, and functional assessments in diverse populations and across age groups.
A practicum experience culminates the FNP certification program. Students collaborate with faculty members to select a community-based primary or family health-focused clinical site for the practicum.
Additional attention is paid to issues and subsequent care of womens health and geriatrics, toward the end of your FNP certification program. These courses help you develop comprehensive, cost-effective, least invasive, quality health care for women and elder populations. Care includes health promotion of counseling, screening and client education to optimize the clients health. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning to guide clinical decision making. These classes feature a series of advanced practice management curriculum and 650 hours practicum experience that involve both evidence-based research and collaboration with faculty in setting up clinical sites to help you provide supervised care to diverse patients.
