Thomas Pirtle

Dr. Thomas Pirtle earned his Ph.D. in Biology with an emphasis in Neurophysiology at Arizona State University. Prior to teaching at Grand Canyon University, Dr. Pirtle taught general biology, anatomy and physiology, and basic physiology at Abilene Christian University, Abilene, Texas. Dr. Pirtle has been with Grand Canyon University since 2010 and primarily teaches the medical physiology course for pre-health professions, which he enjoys teaching very much. What Dr. Pirtle brings to the classroom is an enthusiasm for discovery and a sense of wonder that comes from a desire to understand how the human body works. Through collaboration with his former Ph.D. advisor, Dr. Pirtle has been involved in continuing research in neuronal control of locomotion using the marine mollusk, Clione limacina, as a model system. Dr. Pirtle is a member of the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology where he has served as secretary for the Division of Neurobiology.
