Cheryl Roat

College of Nursing and Health Care Professions



Dr. Cheryl Roat graduated from the first BSN class at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbannais, IL and completed her MS in Nursing at University of Missouri-Columbia with a focus on child health. Dr. Roat's doctoral degree (EdD) was earned at the University of Nebraska--Lincoln through online course study with her dissertation focused on nursing admission predictors of student outcomes. Dr. Roat possesses a wealth of experience in the field, as she boasts a 40 year career in nursing with over 24 years at Grand Canyon University. Her clinical expertise has been focused on pediatrics with additional experience in medical-surgical and maternity nursing. Dr. Roat has taught in several nursing program, in both traditional and online classroom settings. Currently, Cheryl is the Associate Dean of the College of Nursing at Grand Canyon University. Some of her past professional leadership positions include Interim Director of Pediatric and Maternity for hospital units, President of Nu Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International - Nursing Honor Society, and board member of Arizona Nurses' Association Chapter One.

Dr. Roat finds genuine purpose in her role as a teacher and looks forward to working with a great team of people to solve the issues of the day. Most of all, she enjoys the opportunity to share her faith and values in a Christian environment. Outside of work, Cheryl enjoys spending time with family, reading mystery/romance novels, and traveling to new destinations. She has traveled to Europe, Central America, Canada, Mexico, Mongolia, and China. Cheryl has been married for 40 years and has three children; two of which are educators while the third is a registered nurse
