Biography

Jonathan Sharpe is a writer and lecturer on history, religion and culture, serving as a member of the Christian Studies faculty for Grand Canyon University, instructing courses in history, interdisciplinary studies and Christian worldview. Jonathan graduated from Seattle Pacific University in 2000, with a B.A. in history, and from Fuller Seminary in 2005, with an M.A. in Theology (focusing on Christian History). Jonathan has taught courses in advanced ESL as a ministry to newly arrived refugees and also founded and advises a student club at GCU that provides beginning ESL training for refugees. He is also a screenwriter with a script currently in development as a feature film.

In 2007 and 2008, Jonathan and his wife lived and worked in Iasi, Romania where they founded an NGO providing mentoring for children living in urban poverty. At the same time, Jonathan led a research project, funded by World Vision, studying the history of Christian work among the poor in the European Union's poorest region, also using the study to build relationships with churches and non-governmental organizations working there to meet the needs of the poor. In 2006-2007, Jonathan worked as a writer and head of creative development for Vision FilmWorks, an independent film company in Laguna Beach, CA. During this same year, Jonathan also taught church history for Horizon College, in Seattle, WA, as well as teaching Anthropology, Physiology of Psychology and History as an associate faculty for Ashford University.

From 2002-2005, Jonathan served as an associate pastor of youth and college ministry for an urban church in Seattle, WA, Ballard Baptist, where he oversaw teaching and ministry for elementary, secondary and college age youth. While there Jonathan led outreach trips to locations including Helene, Honduras to support local churches and provide service to the local community. During this same period, Jonathan also served as the chairman of the board for "The Center", a Christian youth center providing programs and mentoring for urban youth in the city of Seattle. Jonathan and his wife currently serve among the refugee community of Phoenix, Arizona, under Shepherd's Staff Missions Facilitators.
