Following the successful completion of the Lifelong Learning Assessment (LLA) course (ENG 135), students may create and submit an LLA paper by documenting life experience in the form of an essay. Grand Canyon University will award credit to students for life experiences when such experiences are deemed equivalent to college level learning by the evaluator. Credit earned through the LLA paper process can only be used to fulfill a general education or an elective requirement.

|Graduates of Grand Canyon University will be able to demonstrate awareness and appreciation of and empathy for differences in arts and culture, values, experiences, historical perspectives, and other aspects of life (psychology, sociology, government, Christian studies, Bible, geography, anthropology, economics, political science, child and family studies, law, ethics, cross-cultural studies, history, art, music, dance, theater, applied arts, literature, health, etc.).|
Students must include the LLA cover pages as the cover sheets of the essay. The LLA cover pages must be included when the paper is submitted for review. Incomplete submissions will delay the process.
Students should note that incomplete LLA papers will not be reviewed and will be returned to the student. Students will be notified of the outcome of the review within ten (10) business days of receipt of the correctly completed LLA. Students are notified through their GCU email account.
Note: Only students who have successfully completed the LLA course (ENG 135) will be allowed to apply for additional credit in the form of an LLA paper. Successfully completing the LLA course does not ensure that credit will be awarded for the subsequent LLA paper. Students only have two (2) chances to receive a passing score on the evaluation of their LLA paper. Should a student not pass the initial attempt, their LLA paper, with evaluator feedback and comments, will be returned to the student for an opportunity to resubmit for a second chance. After the second attempt, if the student fails the evaluation the student will not be given any other opportunities to resubmit their LLA paper.
