Grand Canyon University in Arizona
As a leading private Christian university, Grand Canyon University is home to a thriving campus community in Phoenix. With over 150 academic programs, GCU caters to traditional students with campus-based degree programs and working adults with convenient evening and online learning options.
In fall 2014, GCU welcomed over 10,600 students to its 179-acre campus. Never a dull moment, student activities include concerts, barbeques, dances, pizza parties and movies on the lawn.
GCU is strongly committed to serving others and leads a wide variety of volunteer programs for students and staff. GCU's newest outreach project is a one-of-a-kind partnership with Habitat for Humanity to renovate an entire community of homes in our surrounding neighborhood.
College sports are big on campus. GCU joined the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in fall 2013 with 22 Division I sports, the most of any school in Arizona. Our teams have continued to exceed expectations during their first seasons in Division I.
A Growing Campus
Over the past few years, GCU has undergone a major campus expansion as our student body continues to grow.
GCU Arena was expanded for fall 2014 and is home to the Lopes men's and women's basketball teams, major concerts and other events. For fall 2015, we plan to continue expanding our campus and our amenities, including building four new suite-style residence halls for the incoming freshmen class.
On the academic front, our new College of Science, Engineering and Technology is focused on preparing exceptionally competent graduates to enter the dynamic and highly competitive workforce of the 21st century. In addition to housing our well-respected biology programs, this college also offers degrees in areas like engineering, computer science and information technology.
GCU offers several modern fitness facilities across campus to help students beat the "freshman 15." Papago Apartments is home to the largest student fitness center, which offers advanced cardio and strength training equipment as well as the Sanctuary. To unwind, students can visit Thunderground at Thunder Alley, which boasts a six-lane bowling alley and live music venue.
There are also plenty of on-campus dining options. The Student Union features an extensive, all-you-can-eat cafeteria with eight different stations including a Mongolian wok and salad bar. Other food options include popular eateries like Subway, Chick-fil-a, Qdoba, Peet's Coffee & Tea and more.
Student housing demand continues to grow with the student body. As of fall 2014, GCU has eight suite-style residence halls and two on-campus apartment complexes. Our campus also boasts three resort-style swimming pools, perfect for lounging and soaking up the Arizona sun.
