MEDIA AND LICENSING
Welcome to Grand Canyon University's (GCU) Media Center, where you can find contact information for spokespersons and subject experts in addition to resources, tools and approved standards to properly promote the university's identity. As a Christian university grounded in academic enterprise, we work to consistently present GCU with integrity and distinction and take steps to safeguard our identity.
Grand Canyon University Brand Licensing
GCU has recently decided to bring its licensing program in house. The increased recognition and growth of our alumni base have produced a strong demand for products that display the trademarks, logos and symbols associated with the university. The GCU licensing program has been developed in response to this demand for GCU merchandise.
The university asserts ownership and all rights, title and interest in and to its indicia, which include trademarks, service marks, trade names, designs, logos, seals, symbols, mascots, slogans and any other indicia that is associated with or refers to GCU. The licensing program allows the university to preserve the integrity, character and image of the university and to regulate the quality and appropriateness of products bearing its indicia. Any products will be considered by the university. However, no product will be licensed without the approval of a representative of the GCU licensing program.
Trademark licensing creates a cooperative and positive working relationship between the university, vendors, manufacturers of approved and authorized products and the retailers of these products.
Any person, organization or manufacturer wishing to use any of GCU's marks for commercial or promotional purposes must obtain a license from the university by completing the GCU Licensing Application. Either a standard or restricted non-exclusive license will be granted to those who meet all requirements and whose products and services are deemed appropriate. A standard license will be issued to licensees who will sell products to GCU campus stores, GCU Pro Shop, GCU Hotel, external retail outlets or non-recognized student clubs and organizations. A restricted license will be issued to licensees who only sell products to internal departments, recognized clubs and organizations of GCU for internal university use only. If a company supplies products for both internal use as well as resale, then both a standard and restricted license will be issued. All retail outlets are responsible for ensuring that the merchandise they sell is licensed.
The licensing department will also answer questions and provide guidance to the university community with regard to the use of GCU's trademarks and assist GCU departments, student organizations and others in finding approved vendors of appropriate promotional and other imprinted items.
