Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB)
The Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty (Chapter 30) Veterans Education Benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence courses.
- Active Duty members enroll and pay $100 per month for 12 months upon enlistment
- Eligible to receive up to 36 monthly education benefit entitlements once they have completed a minimum service obligation based on the Current payment rates
- Generally, benefits are payable for 10 years following the date of release from active duty
- Some servicemembers may have contributed up to an additional $600 to the Montgomery GI Bill to receive increased monthly benefits up to $5400
Military Veterans may be an eligible for one of the three categories of MGIB Benefits if they received an Honorable Discharge, AND have a High School Diploma or GED or 12 hours of college credit, AND they meet the requirements of the categories.
