Master of Divinity with an Emphasis in Global Ministry

A Master of Divinity at GCU opens a pathway in service to the Church. It appeals to learners who have devoted their lives to ministry and faith. The Master of Divinity is a standard theology degree that sets the stage for ordained professional ministry and the foundational elements for a successful academic career.

The emphasis in Global Ministry reflects the demands placed on mission leaders who thrive internationally in a cross-cultural ministry setting. The program offers an additional skillset for contextualized gospel ministry.

Learners are exposed to a profound depth of biblical and theological knowledge, as they nurture the skills of a leader in Christian study. An integrative examination of the bible allows a scholar to deeply connect with the world through powerful expository sermons that deliver the word of God in its true intent.

Course Content

The program‛s pastorally oriented curriculum emphasizes several key areas, which include:
  • The centrality of the gospel
  • The significance of the church, and
  • The pressing need to advance the Kingdom of God through missions

The crucial components of a well-rounded theological education are captured in this online theology degree, inspiring a life of faithful ministry. Early in the program, learners progress through a series of focused interpretive classes on the Bible that instill a precise understanding of the Word of God. Learners explore the great doctrines of Christian faith and the significance of these doctrines in life and ministry.

After establishing a strong foundation in biblical and theological knowledge, the program turns its attention from the study of Scripture to the contexts where ministry happens. Learners investigate the major world religions and ideologies from an evangelical perspective.

This investigation lays the foundation that cross-cultural bridges are built upon, through careful consideration of the appropriate Christian response toward other religious systems.

A comprehensive study of global Christianity follows. It constructs a framework to establish self-sustainable churches that are culturally authentic. And, it examines the mission and purposes that God and His people have among the nations of this world.

Residency

The residency component of the Master of Divinity degree is strategically designed to further student learning in a conference-style environment at key points within the program of study. Residency courses provide excellent opportunities for students to work collaboratively with professors and colleagues to deepen understandings, enhance skills, and cultivate lifelong relationships. Students will travel to Phoenix three times during the course of their program (approximately once per year) in order to participate in residency courses while earning an MDiv degree.

The immersive concept for residency has the power to strengthen the relationships that are rooted in a community, aligned with the dynamic capabilities of GCU‛s online programs.

At the same time, the spiritual depth at GCU‛s College of Theology deepens a scholar‛s ability to develop Christ-like character inwardly. Learners are equipped to minister with wisdom and sensitivity in a community of faith and as leaders in the public domain.
