Standards for Undergraduate Admission

Students who are interested in earning a bachelor's degree must have a high school diploma or GED. Work experience is also recommended.

Recommended Undergraduate Preparation
Grand Canyon University recommends a certain level of academic preparation to provide a solid foundation for undergraduate success. To promote such success, admission to the University does not necessarily guarantee admission to some programs of study for which the standards are more rigorous. Students desiring to be admitted into these programs should review the appropriate college section of the catalog for additional admission details.

Transfer Students
Applicants with 24 or more transferable credits from an accredited, GCU-approved college, university or program may be accepted to the University if they have an unweighted GPA of 2.25 or above.

Second Bachelor's Degree
Students who have earned a Bachelor's degree from GCU or another institution, but are interested in pursuing a second Bachelor's degree, may be accepted to one of the Undergraduate degree programs if they meet the minimum admission standard of an unweighted GPA of 2.00 or above.

Standards for Graduate Admission

Applicants to the graduate programs may be accepted for admission by meeting one of the criteria specified below.

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited, GCU-approved college, university, or program with a grade point average of 2.8 or better on the degree-bearing transcript
  • Graduate degree from an accredited, GCU-approved college, university, or program

Recommended Graduate Preparation
Some programs of study at Grand Canyon University require a higher GPA and/or other criteria to qualify for admission. A student desiring to be admitted into these programs should review the appropriate college section of the catalog for additional admission details.

Standards for Doctoral Admission

Applicants to the doctoral programs may be accepted for admission by meeting the criteria specified below.

  • Have earned a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution with an overall GPA of 3.4 or better. Applicants with a GPA of 3.0-3.39 will be accepted with specifications.
  • Submit a Letter of Intent of approximately 250-400 words that encourages learners to prepare for their doctoral journey in a reflective and purposeful way. In addition to the above, DBA and Ph.D. applicants must meet the following requirements:

DBA
All entering DBA students must have either 1) an MBA degree or 2) a non-MBA master's degree and transcripts for graduate-level course in accounting, finance and statistics with a cumulative GPA of 3.0. These graduate-level courses may be taken at GCU prior to enrolling in doctoral-level courses.

Ph.D.
All entering Ph.D. learners must complete a statistics course earning a minimum of 2.0 GPA, prior to starting doctoral level courses. Students have the option to take an exam to fulfill this requirement. This course may also be taken at GCU prior to enrolling.
