
Does the thought of studying music composition and developing your musical skill excite you? Are you passionate about drama and destined for the theatre stage? The College of Fine Arts and Production at Grand Canyon University hosts a rich learning environment for students dedicated to the fine arts. One of the first steps in the admissions process requires all incoming music and drama students to audition to be accepted into our Bachelor of Arts programs. The audition is also used as a basis for awarding scholarships.
All auditions are scheduled to take place between 2:00 - 5:00 pm on the dates listed below unless otherwise noted.
You must RSVP to audition on one of the following upcoming dates:
Audition Locations
Music auditions will be held in Building 10.
Theater auditions will be held at Ethington Theater on the GCU campus.
Dance auditions will be held in the Sanctuary Room on the second floor of the Student Recreation Center on the GCU campus from 2:30pm to 4pm.
Pep Band auditions will be held in Building 10 from 3pm to 5pm.
Please note that each individual program major contains its own set of criteria for the audition process. Simply locate your program major below and follow the audition requirements.
Two memorized selections from classical piano literature composed in different historic/stylistic periods. Consider performing two classical solo pieces that best demonstrate your musicianship and technical skills.

*Gospel/Contemporary Christian music is not preferred. No CD or tape tracks please.
If you require an accompanist, please inform us of your song titles or send/fax your music to the Music Office two weeks prior to your audition date, and we will provide a staff accompanist.
Attire should reflect the seriousness of the audition process.

Prepare two contrasting works. The first should demonstrate technical proficiency and the second should demonstrate lyrical playing. Consider performing works from differing style periods possibly including an etude for your instrument. Your chosen audition repertoire may be performed from memory. You will also be asked to perform scales and arpeggios from memory as well as sight read.
Two contrasting (one serious, one comedy) memorized monologues - each two minutes in length, one contemporary and one Shakespeare, are required for the acting audition.
Any other auditioners, such as stage management, design, technical theatre, etcetera should prepare and present a portfolio that showcases their work in the field. An interview will be conducted in lieu of an audition.
Auditioners should dress appropriately.

One one-minute choreographed piece to perform for faculty. Bring music in the form of a CD or iPod. No accompanist will be available.
Further, auditioners will be asked to demonstrate their technical skill level via barre work and a series of progressions which will be led by a faculty member.
Auditioners should dress appropriately in comfortable clothing that shows body alignment and form. Ballet, jazz shoes or bare feet are appropriate for the auditions.
