
Does the thought of studying music composition and developing your musical skill excite you? Are you passionate about drama and destined for the theatre stage? The College of Fine Arts and Production at Grand Canyon University hosts a rich learning environment for students dedicated to the fine arts. For acceptance into the College of Fine Arts and Production's Bachelor of Arts programs, all incoming students are required to audition if they have an intended major in: Music, Music Education, Dance Education, Theatre Education, and Theatre and Drama. The audition is also used as a basis for awarding scholarships.
Auditions can be scheduled between 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. or 1 - 5 p.m.

Audition Locations
Music auditions will be held in Building 8.
Theatre auditions will be held in Building 9.
Dance auditions will be held in Building 9.
Band and Pep Band auditions will be held in Building 8.
Please note that each individual program major contains its own set of criteria for the audition process. Simply locate your program major below and follow the audition requirements.

Please consult the audition schedule above. Contact an enrollment counselor and learn about scholarships valued at $1,500 per year that may be available for members of the Pep Band.
For your audition, prepare two contrasting works. The first should demonstrate technical proficiency and the second should demonstrate lyrical playing. Consider performing works from differing style periods possibly including an etude for your instrument. Your chosen audition repertoire may be performed from memory. You will also be asked to perform scales and arpeggios from memory as well as sight read.

Two memorized selections from classical piano literature composed in different historic/stylistic periods. Consider performing two classical solo pieces that best demonstrate your musicianship and technical skills.

Two memorized classical pieces, either foreign language art songs or arias such as those in the 26 Italian Songs and Arias book or something comparable, and/or a sacred oratorio classical piece. Consider performing two classical solo pieces that best demonstrate your musicianship and technical skills. Gospel/Contemporary Christian music is not preferred. No CD or tape tracks please.
If you require an accompanist, please inform us of your song titles or send/fax your music to the Music Office two weeks prior to your audition date and we will provide a staff accompanist.
Attire should reflect the seriousness of the audition process.

Two contrasting (one serious, one comedy) memorized monologues - each two minutes in length, one contemporary and one Shakespeare, are required for the acting audition.
Any other auditionees, such as stage management, design, technical theatre, etcetera should prepare and present a portfolio that showcases their work in the field. An interview will be conducted in lieu of an audition.
Auditionees should dress appropriately.

For your scheduled live audition, auditionees will be asked to demonstrate their technical skill level via barre work and a series of progressions in the genres of modern, ballet and jazz dance. The class will be led by a faculty member. Please dress appropriately in dance apparel that shows body alignment and form. Ballet shoes, jazz shoes or bare feet are appropriate. Hair must be secured away from the face.

DVD Submittal Procedures
If there is a particular hardship involved in attending the group audition, a prospective student may request a DVD audition by contacting the Director of Dance. This involves submitting a DVD, a completed scholarship application and two confidential letters of recommendation. The dance faculty will either inform you of the results or ask you to schedule an audition at a later time.
