Impact of Culture on Language - Graduates of Grand Canyon University’s Bachelor of Arts in Spanish will be exposed to various cultural elements of the Spanish-speaking world.
- Analyze the influence of culture on both Spanish and English language.
- Use nuances of religious and cultural worldview in the Spanish-speaking world when interpreting or translating. (MC3)
- Identify the use of dialects specific to: Spain, Mexico and Central America, the Caribbean and South America, and Africa.
- Use regionalisms and colloquial terms for various cultures.
- Explain how canonic literary works have influenced Spanish-speaking culture.
Connecting Fields for Translation and Interpretation - Graduates of Grand Canyon University’s Bachelor of Arts in Spanish will use strategies and tools employed in the translation and interpretation fields.
- Determine appropriate strategies to administer a translation or interpretation small business.
- Propose ways to use skills from other fields and disciplines in order to enrich performance as a translator or interpreter.
- Use available Web-based technology to aid the translation and interpretation process.
Cultural Comparisons - Graduates of Grand Canyon University’s Bachelor of Arts in Spanish will explore the similarities and differences between Hispanic and the students’ own cultures.
- Use one’s culture as a point of reference in order to understand Hispanic cultural processes and artifacts.
- Compare culturally relevant interactions in both Hispanic and Anglo-dominant populations.
Translation and Interpretation in the Community - Graduates of Grand Canyon University’s Bachelor of Arts in Spanish will learn how to engage with the community through translation and interpretation services.
- Differentiate between various national and regional boards for translation and interpretation certification.
- Apply translation or interpretation skills in assisting the community.
