  • Concepts of Behavioral Health -
    Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Health Science program with an Emphasis in Family Dynamics will be able to analyze various concepts of behavioral health, such as the history and current trends, theories, approaches, and techniques, along with research and best practices. Additionally, graduates will examine related job opportunities in the behavioral health field.
    • Discuss the history and current trends of behavioral health.
    • Describe current theories, approaches, and techniques in the field of behavioral health.
    • Analyze current research and best practices in the field of behavioral health.
    • Examine various behavioral health emphasis areas and their role in behavioral health.
    • Examine related job opportunities and roles in the behavioral health field.
  • Behavioral Health Skills -
    Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Health Science program with an Emphasis in Family Dynamics will be able to analyze key behavioral health skills, such as the DSM manual and ICD codes, emerging brain technology, clinical and documentation skills, along with ethics and specific laws and rules. In addition, graduates will discuss the role of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for clients, and analyze the scope of practice for behavioral health paraprofessionals and technicians.
    • Discuss the current DSM manual and ICD codes for behavioral health.
    • Examine the use of emerging brain technology for behavioral health.
    • Analyze the different clinical and documentation skills to be an effective member of an interdisciplinary team.
    • Discuss the role of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment when working with behavioral health clients.
    • Evaluate the Code of Ethics and specific state laws and rules for behavioral health.
    • Analyze the scope of practice of a behavioral health paraprofessional and technician.
  • Cultural Competency -
    Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Health Science program with an Emphasis in Family Dynamics will be able to discuss how culture, diversity, and social justice impact the behavioral health field. Additionally, graduates will define the role of religion and spirituality in providing behavioral health services, and examine the values and belief systems of behavioral health disorders among cultures.
    • Discuss the impact of multiculturalism, diversity awareness, and social justice in the behavioral health field.
    • Describe the different types of communication styles among cultures.
    • Define the role of religion and spirituality in providing behavioral health services.
    • Examine the values and belief systems of behavioral health disorders across cultures.
  • Behavioral Health Information Technology -
    Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Health Science program with an Emphasis in Family Dynamics will be able to evaluate the use of diverse technology for behavioral health, such as electronic medical and health records, record keeping, and other related software. In addition, graduates will analyze the importance of privacy, security, and confidentiality with patient records.
    • Differentiate between electronic medical records (EMR) and electronic health records (EHR).
    • Evaluate the use of record keeping and other related software for behavioral health.
    • Analyze the importance of privacy, security, and confidentiality with patient medical and health records.
  • Professional Network -
    Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Health Science program with an Emphasis in Family Dynamics will be able to examine the importance of a professional network in the field of behavioral health, such as roles and expectations, internal and external multi-disciplinary teams, along with local and national service entities. Additionally, graduates will discuss the role of managed care and integrated health system.
    • Explain professional roles and expectations in the field of behavioral health.
    • Examine internal and external multi-disciplinary teams in behavioral health.
    • Analyze local and national behavioral health service entities.
    • Discuss the role of managed care and integrated health system in behavioral health.
  • Family Dynamics -
    Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Health Science program with an Emphasis in Family Dynamics will be able to discuss how the perceptions of families have changed over time and explore counseling theories in relation to couple and family dynamics. Additionally, graduates will identify how an individual’s family of origin can impact future relationships, and analyze how substance use and addictive disorders influence couples and families.
