  • Analysis and Planning -
    Graduates of the Master of Science in Instructional Design will use evidence, observation, and theory to plan effective instructional solutions. They will be able to:
    • Determine learner needs using an empathetic process. [MC3, MC5]
    • Select appropriate instructional and learning theories to guide the development of learning solutions. [MC2]
    • Synthesize a variety of data and evidence to inform instructional design decisions. [MC2]
  • Consultative Problem Solving -
    Graduates of the Master of Science in Instructional Design will be prepared to lead design projects through effective communication, sound decision making, and a strong understanding of systematic instructional design. They will be able to:
    • Determine strategic training decisions based on the needs of an organization. [MC2, MC4]
    • Communicate effectively to manage a collaborative team. [MC2]
    • Advocate for a systematic approach to instructional design within an organization. [MC1, MC4]
    • Develop a plan to manage risk and prevent project disruptions. [MC2]
  • Design and Development -
    Graduates of the Master of Science in Instructional Design will design and develop appropriate instructional solutions for various contexts. They will be able to:
    • Design learning solutions that demonstrate proper instructional alignment.
    • Develop appropriate learning materials for the desired outcomes and performance environment. [MC2]
    • Design assessments that measure skill transfer in authentic situations. [MC2, MC5]
    • Apply multimedia learning principles when designing learning solutions to manage cognitive load. [MC2, MC4]
  • Instructional Design Technology -
    Graduates of the Master of Science in Instructional Design will explore current and emerging instructional design technology, including technical and ethical issues, and design eLearning by leveraging these technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI). They will be able to:
    • Identify strategies for troubleshooting common technical issues.
    • Evaluate design decisions through an iterative instructional design process. [MC2]
    • Determine the effectiveness of an instructional solution in enhancing learner performance to achieve organizational goals. [MC2, MC4]
    • Revise an instructional solution based on evaluation data. [MC2]
