Pedagogy - Graduates of Grand Canyon University’s Master of Sociology with an Emphasis in Education will be exposed to various aspects of sound pedagogical practices at the university level.
- Analyze strategies to effectively collaborate on curriculum design with various stakeholders.
- Align academic standards to objectives and assessments in a syllabus.
- Evaluate the use of various adult learning theories in different situations.
- Recommend best practices in incorporating technology in a distance learning environment.
Theoretical Perspectives - Graduates of the MS in Sociology with Emphasis in Education will examine various sociological theories and apply those theories in different situations.
- Differentiate between Structural Functionalism, Conflict Theory, and Symbolic Interactionism.
- Apply various secondary perspectives of Sociology to specific issues in society.
Stratification and Social Change - Graduates of the MS in Sociology with Emphasis in Education will examine many facets of Stratification and Social Change. Students will analyze how these concepts affect society.
- Assess the functions and consequences of social stratification.
- Analyze social stratification systems.
- Explain how sociological theories account for social change.
- Analyze the major contributing factors to social change.
Family and Global Perspectives - Graduates of the MS in Sociology with Emphasis in Education will examine how the family impacts society as well as how society functions around the world and among different cultures.
- Analyze the structure, functions, and changes in the family from a global perspective.
- Analyze the family from the Structural Functionalism, Conflict Theory, and Symbolic Interactionism perspectives.
- Assess the relationship between the family and various aspects of society.
