  1. Foundational Knowledge - Graduates of the Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics program apply foundational sciences to food and nutrition knowledge to meet the needs of individuals, groups, and organizations. Graduates will be able to:
    • Use math and statistics in making nutritional decisions.
    • Use medical terminology when communicating with individuals, groups, or other health professionals.
    • Recommend proper management of food preparation techniques.
    • Use nutrition informatics in the decision-making process.
    • Recommend best practices for nutrition and physical activity across the life cycle.
    • Promote nutritional health and disease prevention for individuals, groups, or populations.
    • Describe public or global health issues and nutritional needs.

  2. Client/Patient Services - Graduates of the Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics program apply and integrate client/patient-centered principles and competent nutrition and dietetics practice to ensure positive outcomes. Graduates will be able to:
    • Develop a nutrition and dietetics product, program, or service.
    • Select, develop, or implement nutritional screening tools for an individual, group, or population.
    • Utilize the nutrition care process with individuals, groups, or populations.
    • Coordinate a nutritional intervention for individuals, groups, or populations.
    • Prescribe, recommend, or administer nutrition-related pharmacotherapy.
  3. Food Systems Management - Graduates of the Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics program apply food systems principles and management skills to ensure safe and efficient delivery of food and water. Graduates will be able to:
    • Direct the production and distribution of quantity and quality food products.
    • Recommend the purchasing, receiving, and storage of items used for food production or services.
    • Recommend best practices for food safety and sanitation when storing, producing, and serving food.
    • Make food system management decisions informed by agricultural practices and processes.
  4. Community and Population Health Nutrition - Graduates of the Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics program apply community and population nutrition health theories when providing support to community or population nutrition programs. Graduates will be able to:
    • Utilize program planning steps to develop community and population nutrition programs.
    • Engage in legislative and regulatory activities to address community, population, or global health and nutrition policy.
  5. Leadership, Business, Management and Organization - Graduates of the Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics program demonstrate leadership, business, and management principles to guide practice and achieve operational goals. Graduates will be able to:
    • Use leadership skills to guide nutrition and dietetics practice.
    • Apply principles of organization management.
    • Apply project management principles to achieve project goals and objectives.
    • Determine performance improvement activities to improve products or initiatives.
    • Develop implementation and risk management strategies for a nutrition and dietetics program.
  6. Critical Thinking, Research and Evidence-Informed Practice - Graduates of the Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics program integrate evidence-informed practice, research principles, and critical thinking into practice. Graduates will be able to:
    • Use critical thinking skills to make nutrition and dietetic practice decisions.
    • Apply scientific methods and ethical research practices when reviewing, evaluating, or conducting research.
