Catherine Cisar
Adjunct Faculty
Biography
I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Education with a concentration in Special Education from Western Illinois University. Shortly after moving to Arizona, I pursued a Master’s Degree in Counseling, where I had the profound experience of working with sexually abused children, their families, and the perpetrators. This work helped shape my passion for trauma-informed care and healing through compassionate support. Upon returning to Chicago, I continued my academic journey and earned a Doctorate in Education with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction, as well as Administration. I’ve always viewed school as an exciting place to grow—both personally and professionally—and to learn from those around me. For over 20 years, I’ve been truly blessed to serve in the field of Special Education. My career began with working alongside students with emotional and behavioral disabilities, a role I held for 17 years. Seeking new challenges and broader impact, I transitioned into administration and spent the next 13 years as a Director of Special Education. My educational background has allowed me to create more effective and compassionate practices for both students and staff, while also expanding my professional network within this meaningful field. In addition to my work in education, I am also a therapist, specializing in trauma, grief, narcissistic abuse, and a variety of mental health issues. It’s incredibly rewarding to walk with others as they navigate their path toward healing and personal growth. Outside of my professional life, I am a proud Vincentian with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, where I support the underserved through our local thrift store in Scottsdale. Health and wellness are important to me, and I enjoy staying active, spending time outdoors, and relaxing with my rescue dog, Stanley, who has brought so much joy to my life.
