Biography
Kyle Jones, PhD, is a mechanical engineer by education, but has worked exclusively in the biomedical engineering sphere. Dr. Jones earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and his Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering all from the University of Notre Dame, doing his doctoral thesis on “Percolation Mechanisms in Orthopedic Implants.” Upon completion of his degrees, Dr. Jones worked at an orthopedic company as a quality engineer before transitioning to a research engineer at the same organization. Additionally, Dr. Jones completed ground-breaking work on the modeling of bio- tribological systems and possesses expertise in research, development, manufacture and quality control of medical devices, specializing in biocompatible polymers and tribology.
Dr. Jones always thought he would be a teacher toward the end of his career, but God brought the right opportunity along sooner than expected, and he is excited to be working at a teaching-oriented university like Grand Canyon University. With his academic and industry experience in the field of orthopedics, Dr. Jones came to develop and teach the courses for the biomedical engineering program. He has been primarily responsible for writing the classes on biomaterials and biomechanics, and has also taught introduction to engineering, computer programming and physics lab. Dr. Jones' favorite part so far is teaching and connecting with students and seeing their excitement to learn and enthusiasm for engineering!
Born in Oregon and raised in California, Dr. Jones spent his school years and industry life in the Midwest and he is happy to be back in warmer weather in Arizona. Outside of school he enjoys spending time with his family, singing and playing the guitar at church, and playing board games with friends.
