Biography
Dr. Stacey Gaines is and Adjunct Professor at Grand Canyon University teaching in the Performance Psychology program. She received her Bachelors degree (2000) in kinesiology and psychology and Masters degree (2003) in sport and exercise science from the University of Northern Colorado, and her Ph.D. in health and kinesiology from Purdue University (2010).
She has held various faculty appointments at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Purdue University, Liberty University, and Grand Canyon University. She has published articles and given presentations at national and international conferences and is a member of several professional organizations. Dr. Gaines’ areas of research include youth development, motivation, social relationships, and character development in sport. Her contribution to the sport and exercise science profession includes appointments to various organization committees and review boards.
Dr. Gaines continues to consult with groups on performance-based issues including youth sport organizations, creative artists, and professional athletes. She also owns a business where she works with individuals to live healthier – in body, mind, and spirit.
Dr. Gaines was selected by the International Olympic Committee to serve as a torchbearer in the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. She enjoys the outdoors and was a collegiate swimmer. In addition, she enjoys CrossFit, competing in road races and triathlons, and coached volleyball at the high school and club levels.
