Biography
Dr. Tarryn J. Hoff, Ph.D. serves as a Doctoral Dissertation Chair and Content Expert at Grand Canyon University, where he guides doctoral learners through the dissertation process with an emphasis on performance psychology, motivation, and self-determination theory. In this role, Dr. Hoff mentors learners from proposal development through final defense, providing rigorous, individualized support to promote scholarly excellence, methodological rigor, and successful doctoral completion.
Dr. Hoff earned his Ph.D. in General Psychology with an emphasis in Performance Psychology from Grand Canyon University in 2021. His dissertation applied Edward Deci and Richard Ryan’s Self-Determination Theory (SDT) to the field of personal training, examining how autonomy, competence, and relatedness influence motivation and goal attainment. His research supports the development of intrinsic motivation as a pathway to optimizing health, performance, and overall well-being.
In addition to his work at GCU, Dr. Hoff serves as an Adjunct Doctoral Research Chair at the University of Arizona Global Campus, where he continues to support doctoral learners using high standards of academic mentorship and research guidance. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Campus, teaching undergraduate business administration courses and integrating real-world applications, decision-making, and professional skill development into the classroom.
Beyond academia, Dr. Hoff is the founder and owner of GoTarryn! Health & Fitness, a personal training and wellness company based in Atlanta, Georgia. With more than 25 years of experience in health, fitness, and kinesiology, he integrates evidence-based exercise science and performance psychology to promote sustainable behavior change and holistic well-being. Dr. Hoff is passionate about teaching, mentoring, and empowering learners to reach their highest academic and professional potential.
