Biography
Dr. Tarryn J. Hoff, Ph.D. serves as an adjunct faculty member and Doctoral Dissertation Chair at Grand Canyon University, guiding learners through the dissertation process with a focus on performance psychology, motivation, and self-determination theory. In this role, Dr. Hoff mentors doctoral candidates from proposal development to final defense, providing rigorous, individualized support to ensure scholarly excellence and successful completion of their doctoral journey.
Dr. Hoff earned his Ph.D. in General Psychology with an emphasis in Performance Psychology from Grand Canyon University in 2021. His dissertation applied Edward Deci and Richard Ryan’s Self-Determination Theory (SDT) to the field of personal training, exploring how autonomy, competence, and relatedness influence motivation and goal attainment. His research affirmed that individuals can develop intrinsic motivation to optimize health, performance, and personal well-being.
In addition to his work at GCU, Dr. Hoff serves as an adjunct doctoral research chair at the University of Arizona Global Campus, where he applies the same high standards of mentorship and research guidance. His academic career also includes prior teaching appointments at Georgia State University, where he taught undergraduate courses in physical activity, fitness principles, and program management.
Beyond academia, Dr. Hoff is the founder of GoTarryn! Health & Fitness, a premier personal training service in Atlanta, Georgia. With over 25 years of professional experience in health and fitness, he integrates his expertise in exercise physiology and psychology to promote holistic well-being.
Dr. Hoff is passionate about teaching, mentoring, and inspiring students to reach their fullest academic and professional potential, while advancing research in psychology, performance, and motivation.
