Student Writer, Grand Canyon University
Jessica Meyer is a senior at Grand Canyon University. She was raised in Tucson, AZ, but recently moved to Phoenix to attend traditional classes at GCU. Jessica is majoring in marketing in the Colangelo College of Business. It is her first and last year studying at the main campus, and she wishes her time at GCU could last longer! She loves GCU so much, that she hopes to continue to work for GCU’s marketing department after graduation. When she’s not studying or working on campus, she likes to practice and perform with her dance team and spend time with her friends and family.

Spotlight Questions:
I am a transfer senior from a community college in Tucson, AZ. At first, I decided to come to GCU because I discovered that they would accept 90 of my transfer credits, as opposed to other universities that would only accept 60. However, once I started to do more research on GCU, I came to love everything it stood for. GCU is strongly rooted in faith, community and hard work, and that is exactly the kind of environment I want to be in

The thing that I enjoy most about my role at GCU is how strong my voice can be heard, and in return, how much I can listen and learn from others. The smaller class sizes make it easier to listen and be heard in discussions, projects and presentations. It’s also easier to meet new people and form relationships that will last a lifetime. I like to be involved and stay connected, so it’s great that I am able to write these wonderful blogs and be a part of something that’s bigger than myself.

My advice for future GCU students would be to live on campus and stay as involved as possible! Just like high school, the four years you spend getting your degree will go by faster than you would’ve imagined. So join a club, a sports team or a Bible study. Attend sporting events, community events or Chapel.  Volunteer for mission trips, tutoring or community outreach programs. Do everything you can to make your experiences memorable, but still stay focused on your school work and in your faith.
