Kaylor Jones is a junior at Grand Canyon University studying professional writing and psychology in the Honors College. Her dream is to be able to combine her love for writing and passion for travel in a way that will change people’s perspectives on the world. She hopes to one day touch people’s lives in the same way so many have touched hers. When she’s not at work or school, she enjoys learning new things, painting and listening to 80’s rock music. Her favorite thing in the world is her dog.
I grew up in Mesa, about 45 minutes away from campus, and I had always heard great things about GCU. I had never put too much thought into where I wanted to go to college, assuming I would end up at ASU or wherever my friends were going. When it came time to do my research, the reps here were so kind and welcoming, helping me with applications and scholarships and making the process so easy! I loved the dedication they had to making sure everything went smoothly and I got all the information I needed. The staff here, especially in the Honors College, are all so invested in you and your journey. It’s amazing to feel like you have so many people rooting for you. That’s the beauty of GCU and why I made the choice to start my journey here!
My favorite thing about GCU is the amazing environment and community! Everyone you meet on campus is full of infectious enthusiasm that makes it feel like one big family. It’s always great to see all of the smiling faces on campus! The students never fail to have a great attitude, and the staff is always looking out for you. It helps you feel right at home to be welcomed by such eager people and a lively atmosphere! Being a part of this amazing community will never grow old!
My advice for GCU students is to always say yes! Step out of your comfort zone, meet new people and try as many new things as you possibly can! Don’t be afraid – you’re in the same boat as everyone else! College is the perfect time for new experiences. Get out there and make some memories that you’ll treasure forever! In my experience, the best opportunities always present themselves to the people who go looking for them. Put yourself out there and great things will come your way!
