Moving to college on your own and not knowing anyone can be hard. It can be hard to know how to meet people and make new friends. Here are some tips for ways to meet new people and make new friends.

Be Open to Meeting New People

In order to make friends, you should keep an open mindset and be open to meeting new people. Be friendly to the people around you and to new people that you meet. Coming into college can be intimidating at times, but keep an open mind and a good attitude and you will meet a lot of new people and friends for life. Do not be afraid to put yourself out there and introduce yourself to people. Attend as many events as possible and get involved on campus in things that interest you. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and you will find yourself meeting new people and making new friends.

Get to Know Your Dorm Community

A simple way of making friends and meeting new people is to introduce yourself to the people who live in your building and on your hall. Say hello and introduce yourself to other people passing in the hallway; they could end up living next door to you and become your new best friend. When you are at home, keep your door open so people can come in and say hi.

Join Clubs

Joining clubs is a great way to meet new people and make new friends who are interested in the same things that you are. By joining clubs you get to learn and do more of the things that you love and meet new people who are passionate about the same things you are. There is no limit on the amount of clubs you can join. You can join however many you want and whatever your schedule allows.

Sports

If you are someone who enjoys playing sports, then this is another great way to make friends. Join intramural sports and meet people who like to play the same sports that you do. Some of the intramural sports available during the fall at GCU are Flag Football, Indoor Volleyball, Spikeball, 3-on-3 Basketball and Ultimate Frisbee. Some of the spring intramural sports offered at GCU are Indoor Basketball, 16-inch Softball, Soccer and Sand Volleyball. Intramurals are a great way to have fun and meet new people who enjoy the same things you do.

Jobs

Another way to meet new people and make friends is by getting a job on campus. Becoming friends with coworkers always makes work more enjoyable, and you can hang out outside of work. There are multiple student worker jobs to choose from.

Classes

Talking to the people in your classes is a great way to make new friends. If you become friends with the people in your classes, it will help you form study groups and work on homework together to help you better understand the material.
