Weekly Devotional: Trust God In The “No”

“I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.” – Revelation 3:8

God often closes doors and we sometimes do not know why. We try so hard, with every ounce of our being to keep those doors open, but he slams them shut anyway. In these times we need to really trust God. We need to know that he has a reason for saying no.

Life Is Hard

We all have times in our life when things are hard. God tells us no to a lot of things. He says “no” to that job, relationship, house, school and many other things throughout our lives. We go through losses and breakups and get our hearts broken over and over again throughout our lifetime.

“The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you” – Psalm 9:9-10

God Closes Doors

God closes so many doors that we want open. He knows exactly which ones to keep open and which ones to shut, at the exact time that they need to be open or closed. He puts people or situations in and out of our lives at the exact time that we need them.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” – Romans 15:13

We Ask Him Why

We never really know why God closes doors, why he takes people out of our lives, why we get fired from our jobs or rejected from our dream school, but he has a reason for everything. Everything that happens to us and the people that are placed in our lives all have an impact on who we are and who we are becoming.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9

He Has a Plan

God has a reason for everything. We go through every single experience, big or small, for a reason. Everyone we meet and everything we go through helps us to become who we are meant to be. God has a plan for each and every one of our lives and gives us all a purpose, and each situation he puts us through helps shape us to live out our purpose, so trust in his plan and follow the path that he wants you to go.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. “ – Jeremiah 29:11
