  1. Community Engagement - Graduates of Grand Canyon University's Master of Public Health program are prepared to serve as community engagement specialists who integrate knowledge of biological, behavioral, and environmental sciences with cultural competence, effective communication, and leadership strategies to effect positive change and improve the overall health of the people and communities they serve both in the United States and abroad.
    • Communicate to inspire behavioral change while building ethos with stakeholders through relationship-building, effective leveraging of communication channels, and dissemination of timely and factual information.
    • Assess a policy's impact on economic and environmental sustainability and reduction of health disparities through application of the Health in All Policies approach.
    • Analyze the interrelationships between evangelization and ministry efforts and local public health initiatives within faith-based organizations in global settings.
    • Apply principles of servant leadership in the formation of cross-cultural partnerships and teams.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of aid, innovative public health models, and private-public partnerships in promoting health and environmental stewardship and reducing poverty in international environments.
  2. Evidence-Based Approaches to Public Health - Graduates of Grand Canyon University's Master of Public Health program are prepared to evaluate the components of evidence-based studies, apply statistical methods, and interpret results. Graduates are able to describe different quantitative study designs and apply them to appropriate contexts and situations leading to the generation of new evidence and knowledge.
    • Apply epidemiological methods to the breadth of settings and situations in public health practice.
    • Select quantitative and qualitative data collection methods appropriate for a given public health context.
    • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data using biostatistics, informatics, computer-based programming, and software, as appropriate.
    • Interpret results of data analysis for public health research, policy, or practice.
  3. Planning and Management to Promote Health - Graduates of Grand Canyon University's Master of Public Health program are prepared to apply competencies related to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion and disease prevention programs. Graduates are able to apply health behavior theories to program planning and evaluation, conduct a needs assessment, select interventions, measure program outcomes, and collaborate with stakeholders.
    • Assess population needs, assets, and capacities that affect communities' health.
    • Apply awareness of cultural values and practices to the design or implementation of public health policies or programs.
    • Design a population-based policy, program, project, or intervention.
    • Explain basic principles and tools of budget and resource management.
    • Select methods to evaluate public health programs.
    • Apply systems thinking tools to a public health issue.
  4. Policy in Public Health - Graduates of Grand Canyon University's Master of Public Health program are prepared to examine the intricacies of public health policy development and examine the role of federal, state, and local government in the provision of public health programs and services through health policy and law. Graduates are able to apply advocacy strategies for mobilizing communities, coalitions, and organizations to support and implement policy as well as structure and write a health policy analysis, including economic and budgetary impacts of policy options.
    • Discuss multiple dimensions of the policy-making process, including the roles of ethics and evidence.
    • Propose strategies to identify stakeholders and build coalitions and partnerships for influencing public health outcomes.
    • Advocate for political, social, or economic policies and programs that will improve health in diverse populations.
    • Evaluate policies for their impact on public health and health equity.
    • Discuss the means by which structural bias, social inequities, and racism undermine health and create challenges to achieving health equity at organizational, community, and societal levels.
  5. Systems and Leadership - Graduates of Grand Canyon University's Master of Public Health program are prepared to be servant leaders of cross-cultural teams that innovate and create unique solutions for current and emerging public health problems by leveraging community partnerships. They understand the different leadership styles found in governmental, health care, and nonprofit settings and are able to work within those different styles. Graduates are able to manage and lead through strategic plans that apply systems thinking and organizational change principles.
    • Compare the organization, structure, and function of health care, public health, and regulatory systems across national and international settings.
    • Apply principles of leadership, governance, and management, which include creating a vision, empowering others, fostering collaboration, and guiding decision making.
    • Apply negotiation and mediation skills to address organizational or community challenges.
  6. Communication and Interprofessional Practice - Graduates of Grand Canyon University's Master of Public Health program are prepared to use communication to positively influence understanding of health information, decision making, and health behavior. They understand the role of the public health professional as a trusted source of health information and examine strategies for combating misinformation within communities. Graduates are able to design public health communications and select appropriate communication channels for a variety of audiences, including individuals and communities.
    • Select communication strategies for different audiences and sectors.
    • Communicate audience-appropriate public health content, both in writing and through oral presentation.
    • Describe the importance of cultural competence in communicating public health content.
    • Perform effectively on interprofessional teams.
