Sigma Theta Tau International

What do you know about the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, at Grand Canyon University? Would you like to be a part of the Nu Upsilon Chapter? Wondering how it all works?

Nu Upsilon is the local chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International here at GCU. The Greek meaning of the honor society translates to “love, courage, and honor.”

Membership to this honor society is by invitation only, but the College of Nursing and Health Care Professions does receive requests for membership by individuals at all times. Nursing students who have completed one half of an accredited program and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher are candidates for admission to Nu Upsilon.

What does our honor society do? Nursing research is an important role in the nursing profession. Sigma Theta Tau International contributes to more than 200 research educational endeavors, and chapters contribute to nursing research with grants, scholarships, and awards. Sigma Theta Tau International also produces journals on evidence-based and best-practice policy.

Currently, our chapter of Nu Upsilon is working on a service project “Streetlight USA,” a residential program for girls ages 11 to 17 that provides a healing and safe environment from sexual exploitation and sex trafficking throughout the U.S. Part of the program is providing art therapy, supplies, and writing materials. Another project in January will be a meet and greet, “Nightingale Night.”

As our college grows, so will Nu Upsilon. Stay tuned for more information coming in 2016!
