COT Presents the Worship Arts Songwriter Showcase

April 13 calendar

Monday, April 13

The College of Theology will host its second Worship Arts Songwriter Showcase of the 2014-2015 academic year. The event features top original songs created and performed by worship arts students. Performances are unplugged, acoustic and take place in a low-fi, coffee house-style venue. The goal of this event is not primarily performance, but instead a listening-based, reflective and contemplative experience led by current students.

Prof. John Frederick, our worship arts coordinator, will be emceeing the event and setting the conversational tone with students as they discuss the scriptural roots and inspiration for their original pieces.

In the words of Dr. Frederick, “We gather to hear and enjoy songs that are written out of the energetic catalyst of creativity which, by God’s grace, is overflowing from the heart of a community that is itself being transformed into the image of Christ. The songwriter showcase will continue to grow within the major, establishing itself as a premier benchmark for aspiring songwriters within our program for the glory of God through the creative heart of the Church in song.”

John Frederick (Ph.D. New Testament, University of St. Andrews) is Assistant Professor and coordinator of the Worship Arts program at Grand Canyon University.
