  • Sociological Perspectives and Analysis -
    Graduates of Grand Canyon University’s Bachelor of Science in Sociology program will be able to engage the social world and society through definitional frameworks and analytical tools of sociology including the social self, the sociological imagination, micro and macro perspectives, social theory, and the professional social services field.
    • Describe how social factors in group and society influence individual behavior and the development of the social self.
    • Describe the role of theory in making sense of social phenomena.
    • Analyze a social phenomenon from both the macro and micro perspectives.
    • Use the sociological imagination in analysis of social phenomenon and social reality.
  • Applied Sociology -
    Graduates of Grand Canyon University’s Bachelor of Science in Sociology program will be able to read and understand research reports as well as design, conduct, and report on original research of their own. They will be able to analyze data and draw conclusions about how the data advances our understanding of society and groups within society.
    • Describe the role of research methods in furthering sociological knowledge.
    • Analyze research data to make sociological claims.
    • Produce a research report.
    • Use appropriate statistical methods for particular situations.
  • Content Areas of Sociology -
    Graduates of Grand Canyon University’s Bachelor of Science in Sociology program will be able to be proficient in the ability to apply the functional perspective, conflict perspective, and the, symbolic interaction perspective to further define the evolution of the theories of sociology as it applies to structure, institutions, and global stratification. Students will be able to expand on the implications of class, gender, race, religion, and other mitigating factors that impact social structure.
    • Explain social processes through the functional, conflict, and symbolic interaction perspectives.
    • Analyze the U.S. stratification system in regards to class.
    • Analyze the U.S. stratification system in regards to gender.
    • Analyze the U.S. stratification system in regards to race.
    • Summarize the elements and functions of social institutions and their place within the social structure.
    • Analyze the role of religion and its effect on society.
