  • Pedagogy -
    Graduates of Grand Canyon University’s Master Arts in Communication with an Emphasis in Education will be exposed to various aspects of sound pedagogical practices at the university level.
    • Analyze strategies to effectively collaborate on curriculum design with various stakeholders.
    • Align academic standards to objectives and assessments in a syllabus.
    • Evaluate the use of various adult learning theories in different situations.
    • Recommend best practices in incorporating technology in a distance learning environment.
  • Teaching Writing and Rhetoric -
    This domain equips teachers of college writing with the background and skills necessary to meet outcomes listed in the WPA Outcomes Statement. The goal of this domain is to have a lasting effect on student writing by providing student writers with a variety of experiences that can be adapted to new contexts.
    • Apply appropriate pedagogical practices to the teaching of writing.
    • Articulate the relationship between transfer of learning and writing.
    • Develop examples and materials appropriate for the teaching of writing.
    • Engage in appropriate reflection for classroom practices and student outcomes.
    • Apply current theories of writing and rhetoric, as articulated through the WPA Outcomes Statement and the Elon Statement on Writing Transfer, to teaching practices and assessment.
    • Explain the role of technology in writing.
    • Design genre focused writing experiences.
  • Teaching Literature -
    Students will examine different approaches to teaching literature, as well as literary genre conventions, critical theory, assessment and pedagogical techniques.
    • Apply appropriate pedagogical practices to the teaching of literature.
    • Develop examples and materials appropriate for the teaching of literature.
    • Apply current critical theories to the teaching of literature.
