There are no additional training requirements for Mental Health Counselor Intern licensure in this state. However, the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health requires an 8-hour laws and rules course and a 3-hour human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immune deficiency syndrome course from a board approved provider listed on CE Broker in order to qualify for the full Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) credential. In addition, a 2-hour domestic violence course from a board approved provider listed on CE Broker within six months of licensure is required. Please be aware that these content specific credit hours are not included in this program. Students seeking licensure should plan to acquire these credit hours outside of this program. Additional Training Requirements

The New York State Education Department Office of the Professions requires individuals, when applying initially for licensure or a limited permit, to provide documentation of having completed two hours of coursework or training regarding the identification and reporting of child abuse and maltreatment. Applicants must provide documentation of having completed the coursework or training through a Department-approved course.


Field Placement Requirements

The New York State Education Department Office of the Professions requires 600 clock hours of a supervised internship or supervised practicum in mental health counseling of at least one year. Please note, only New York State registered mental health counseling programs and Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredited out-of-state programs to place student interns at mental health counseling settings located in New York State. This program does not have CACREP accreditation and students cannot complete practicum requirements for licensure as Mental Health Counselor in New York State.
